Highly recommended for those who care about their health.
This is one of those books that you need to re-read at regular intervals as you slip back into the common western lifestyle. The authors identify the synergistic effects of bad habits, eg too much sugar, fat and alcohol and too little exercise, and provide an easy "little-willpower" program to control them. It has one of the most effective programs for stopping smoking that I have read

A powerful presentation on the essence of Christianity
Linda M. Carter's Stepping Out On God's Words is a profound and personally inviting message of one woman's understanding and embrace of God's wisdom and love. Presenting powerful and moving interpretations of Biblical passages showcasing such qualities such as obedience, love, prayer, Stepping Out On God's Words offers poetry written straight from the faith of the heart, inspiring prayers, an interpretation of the Body of Christ, and an impressive selection of superlatively important Biblical passages. Stepping Out On God's Words is recommended as a brief yet powerful presentation on the essence of Christianity and God's love for all His creation.

Strange Things Sometimes Still Happen: Fairy Tales from Around the World
Published in Hardcover by Faber & Faber (April, 1993)
Authors: Angela Carter and Corinna Sargood
Average review score:

Excellent collection for Kids and Adults, great strong women
This is an excellent book which I highly reccomend. Carter has collected folk tales from a wide variety of sources and cultures which have strong female characters in them. She uses the more orally based tales, rather than literary creations, which gives the stories some real zest. Instead of a collection of didatic stories about good feminist heroines, this is a collection of stories about strong women, both good and bad. Their craftiness may save their home or allow them to cheat their way to glory. I adore this collection, and reccomend highly to parents who want to give their children something to read that doesn't have namby pamby princesses who wait around to be rescued, or adults who loved fairy tales as a child.

Stuart Davis
Published in Hardcover by Amon Carter Museum (December, 1986)
Authors: Stuart Davis, Amon Carter Museum Of Western Art, and Jane E. Myers
Average review score:

STUART DAVIS RULES!
Right off the bat you should know I keep buying this book because I keep giving my current copy away to people I love. This book brilliantly presents superlative examples of why Stuart Davis is seen by artists & art historians alike as one of the greatest American painters of the 20th Century. A thousand imitators have followed after Davis, trying to match his genius for both capturing and yet leading the American cultural zeitgeist. No one can match him: Davis is the master. Buy this book and see why. Better yet, buy multiples of this book: you will want THAT much to give your favorite people a treasure of a book from one of the few true diamonds amongst 20th century American artists, Stuart Davis. And have fun reveling.

Successful Stockmarket Speculation
Published in Paperback by Mistaya Holdings Ltd (January, 1992)
Author: Ted Carter
Average review score:

a technical trading guide without inflexible dogma
Technical traders tend to turn their fomulas for picking stocks into gospel, to be religiously followed, a "discipline" is one of their favourite words. Ted Carter, in "Succesful Stock Market Speculation" puts forward a technical trading theory, in shall we say, a kinder and more gentle way. He comes to propose his theory in a round about way, bringing the reader to what is still a technical trading approach, but through an explanation of his logic. Through a combination of personal examples, humour and wit he lays the foundation for his approach easily and comfortably before getting into the nitty gritty of his "system." Sure, there is some dogma along the way - his favourite is "Never buy what your broker is selling" - but as with most of his homilies there is a persuasive logic behind it. When he gets down to telling you his trading approach the foundation has been laid for its reception. The actual technical theory, based on prices and volumes, is less mathematical than most. And while most technical traders are overly fond of the charts and hidden pictures they can imagine being formed in them [head and shoulders?], Carter' s technique is flexible, and refreshingly logical. His system uses indicators to alert the user to a stock that is just signaling that something may be happening, there is still more work to be done. He then expands on other factors he would consider, along with some useful, if not obvious, words of advice along the "don't bet the farm" line. His approach seems to work. The subscribers to his daily newletter, which incorporates his system in faxed or email format for those not wanting to do their homework, have done well over the past few years. And, most notably, for a man who knew the late David Walsh personally, Carter was one of the few advisors who got in and out of Bre-X in time. His book is easy to read, and his system easy to take.

Such Sweet Thunder
Published in Hardcover by Steerforth Press (March, 2003)
Authors: Vincent O. Carter and Herbert R. Lottman
Average review score:

Captivating Coming of Age Story
SUCH SWEET THUNDER is a posthumously released novel written in 1963 by Vincent O Carter. Several publishers rejected Carter's orginal manuscript and Carter died before he could see his work published. However, the manuscript was found 30 years later by Herbert Lottman in the possession of Carter's girlfriend. Lottman writes the foreword for the reborn manuscript and the only changes he made to the novel was the name from its original title ' The Primary Colors.'

SUCH SWEET THUNDER begins in 1944 when the reader meets Amerigo Jones who is a solider fighting in World War II. He is visiting a French prostitute and in her eyes, Amerigo envisions a woman from his youth. The story from this point is lyrical flashback to a segregated Kansas City of the 1920 and 30. The reader sees life from Amerigo's perspective as he deals with independence, love, sexuality and respect. Amerigo is a dreamer who realizes many of dreams will be unfulfilled because of his skin color.

SUCH SWEET THUNDER is a captivating coming of age story. It is well written and the novel enthralls the reader with the vivid descriptions of a young man's life. I am glad that Mr. Lottoman found the manuscript and completed the process that Carter started 40 years earlier.
